1963 V-7 Twin Turbo Corvette up for Auction!

This car is nothing if not Insane! Inspired by his mid-engine Ford GT , Vehicle designer Mark Harlan asked himself “what if GM had created a mid-engine version of the second-generation Corvette to run at Le Mans.”
He answered that question by building a jaw-dropping 1963 Corvette V7 twin-turbo. The one-off show car will have Corvette fans either loving or loathing the car. I guess it all depends on what you think a classic car should look like. Personally, I love the classic lines merged with the state of the art. Different s good.
Harlan’s creation (since sold to new owners) will cross the block in Fort Lauderdale as part of the Auctions America sale.
Watch it In Action:
Harlan has a background in both architectural and automotive design and has had a passion specifically for for Corvettes. While making the car (It looks more like a Corvair than a Vette) Harlan knew that the V7 would draw not only cheers but jeers as well.
If you’re a Corvette purist, take a minute to note that he didn’t part-out a killer Clean Corvette. The base car was non-matching numbers Vette that had been baking in the Florida sun for decades. The car needed a facelift to say the least but what it got was so much more.

Once Harlan had his idea in place he enlisted the help of American Super Car, Inc.. Located in Springhill, Florida, the shop is known for its meticulous attention to detail. Soon the shop was busy fabricating the square tube frame, modifying the fiberglass body and getting the car ready for the V-7.
The “cab forwarded” design pushed everything up by 24-inches as well as widening the vehicle. The 63′ Corvette’s original 98-inch wheelbase was now stretched to a little over 101 inches. The average viewer will want to immediately identify the car as a Corvette that looks like a Corvair but there is also a sprinkling of of Ferrari.

The engine is an aluminum block LS1 V-8, displacing 395-cu.in. and force-fed through a pair of 77mm Turbo Re-Source turbochargers. The combination reportedly produces and absurd 1,070 horsepower and 915 pound-feet of torque!
To deal with the power they needed to strengthen the internals and added a Lunati forged crankshaft. The custom-built console is tight, compact and filled with the things you would expect from a high-end restomod including the Mendeola sequential transaxle getting shifted exclusively via paddle shifters.

As I mentioned earlier, the detail that American Supercars Inc. puts into the build is widely known but not often apparent at first glance. On closer inspection the viewer will see the machined billet supports for the hood and the trunk, the matching billet inserts in the Cobra seats and the aluminum dash, with its Auto Meter gauges. Harlan made sure to keep the authentic vibe of the original vehicle where possible.
What else was a nice touch? How about the V7 twin-turbo badges on the “Sui-slide” doors that are cast and enameled by a jeweler. Yeah, this car has a little flash to match the power.

Look for this amazing machine to be hitting the auction block in Fort Lauderdale. The sale will take place from March 27-29, at the Greater Fort Lauderdale / Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The technical side of the V7 is also reported as “amazing.” The custom tube dual ladder frame forms the base. Penske Racing supplied the fully adjustable suspension. Completing the chassis are gigantic six-piston Baer brakes with cross-drilled rotors. All this rolls on custom HRE wheels clad with Michelin’s widest production-based rubber. This car is also stated to feature a Hot Rod Magazine project engine that is “literally blueprinted to the max.” The Chevrolet LS twin turbo V-8 engine dynos at 1,000-hp and 915-lb/ft of torque. This power unit is mated to a custom built Mendeola transaxle and Master Shift paddles.
Any travel can be undertaken in a most rapid manner. The V7 prototype is reported to launch from 0- to 60-mph in less than three seconds. It is promoted as being brutally fast, sexy and artistically engineered; it is considered as a welcoming to the “American supercar world.”
It is further reported as the winner of the automotive industry’s coveted GM Design Award. The V7 has attained the credentials of 21st century automotive art. Museum level quality and endless details make the V7 Twin Turbo a most collectable Corvette. “Rarely does a car move so many emotionally. Rarely does a car have this much soul.” GM’s Design Director said it best. “The Corvette Duntov would have been built to win Le Mans; exquisite execution, sensuous lines, amazing details, the V7 is the finest I have ever seen. The best of the best.”
