1969 Plymouth Road Runner

Plymouth added a convertible option to the 1969 offering of the Road Runner and all 2,128 units produced that year were powered by a 6.3-liter engine, except for ten which were fitted with a 7.0-liter Hemi. Only minor changes were added to the body style like the grille, side marker lights, tail lights, and the optional bucket seats.

The introduction of an Air Grabber, a fiberglass air duct mounted on the underside of the hood and connected to two upward-facing vents with orange vent screens, added to the tough look of the Road Runner. The assembly channeled air directly into the engine, a nice touch was that the vents could be opened and closed through a lever under the dashboard.

It came stock with a 383 engine while the 440 engine option with a trio of Holley two-barrel carburetors was added towards the middle of the year(The 440 engine thumped out 390 hp at 4,700 rpm and 490 ft-lb of torque at 3200 rpm). The so called, “440 Six Pack” featured a slick black fiberglass hood, four hood pins, a huge hood scoop and a red “440 6BBL” sticker on each side.
