Chevrolet had a hit with the Chevelle. Providing buyers with a larger performance vehicle than Camaro or Nova was a brilliant idea in many ways, and it is principally considered Chevrolet’s truest muscle car. Because the car lent itself to easy, inexpensive modifications right from the showroom floor, hot rodders and drag racers loved the car. Plus, Chevelle provided all of the performance of the competition, but usually did so for several dollars less, making it widely accessible to a great number of demographics.

Like so many Chevys, it was available with an absolute symphony of optional extras—it could be as fast, luxurious, stylish, or all of the above as the buyers checkbook would allow. Many consider the 1970 and 1971 Chevelle to be the penultimate example of Chevelle in terms of packaging, styling, performance, and available options. This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle has been heavily modified, has been part of the same collection since 2001 and was once an ISCA Show Car.

Under the hood is a 482 CI big-block powerhouse linked to a Turbo 400 automatic transmission with a Hurst ratchet shifter. With aluminum heads, Holley Dominator carburetor, Mallory ignition, large-diameter headers and dual exhaust to name a few of its performance accoutrements, it’s certain to impress at shows and on the strip.

The frame has been smoothed and painted, and chrome has been applied to the engine, serpentine setup, inner wheel wells, front A-arms, and sway bar adding a little bling to the beast. Even the hinges for the cowl hood are chromed. A Positraction rear end ensures the Mickey Thompson tires grab with ease. Inside, an Auto Meter Monster tach and auxiliary gauges help report vitals and Black bucket seats keep everyone in their place. A full roll cage and trunk-mounted fuel cell keep safety in check.
