A Cadillac Hot Rod For The Discerning Speedster

I’m willing to bet that when you think of hot rods, Cadillac isn’t the first brand that springs to mind. You’re more likely to think of a Ford Model A, or maybe a Chevy 3100. All chopped down, hacked up, and with no trace of comfort left, right? This car may prove you wrong. What’s happened here is that a Cadillac Series 62 has been taken and…adjusted. The body may not look all that different at first glance, and you may expect to see it ferrying around a small town Mayor rather than kicking out a quarter-mile, but look closer. The car’s been dropped dramatically, with ground clearance more resembling that of Billy Gibbon’s Cadzzilla.

The car rides on air ride suspension, and some haute couture side skirts have been thrown over the rear wheels. The hood’s been given a little makeover too, but the original looks are still there. This is a Cadillac, make no mistake. Just a mutant one. Opening up said capacious hood, you’ll find a big old 6.2 liter V8. This custom engine has LS heads, a modified cam, and produces around 550 horsepower.

Behind the engine in the cab, a cream interior complements the red exterior in a classic combination. The front seats came from a Caddy but have been cut to fit in the Series 62. LEDs are a bit hit and miss for a lot of people, and you’ll find them in the center console of this restomod, but I think it’s been handled tastefully. In the trunk, you’ll find an access hatch to the car’s suspension system and battery, with everything stored neatly in its place. While Cadillac may not be the first thing you think when you think hot rod, this car is the perfect combination of their two widely different worlds.
