Want To See A 1965 Pontiac GTO With Over 520 Horsepower? Yes, You Do.

Considered by some to be the very first muscle car, the Pontiac GTO is like nothing else on Earth. The product of a GM ban on racing, the GTO did something very simple: took a 389 V8 and put it in a Pontiac Tempest. What if you decide you want more than 325 horsepower, though? Well, you take matters into your own hands. That’s what Pete Greene did to his 1965 GTO, replacing the engine with a 400 that’s been bored out to 467 ci and equipped with a stroker kit. The end result is an engine which outputs somewhere between 520 and 540 horsepower.

It’s not just the exterior that’s been improved. The car has been heavily restored since Pete bought it, with only the bumpers and steel trim remaining original to the car. The rest has been replaced with a range of new parts, giving the GTO an absolutely stunning look. A whole range of other modern parts have also been installed, including power steering, AC, disc brakes, giving a boost to the car’s ageing handling. Inside, the seats have had extra padding installed, and the carpet’s been replaced with that from a BMW, but one which matches the original color.

This GTO looks to be a wonderful beast of a machine, and one I’d love to see pushed to its limits.
