This Lincoln Continental Is Like Nothing You’ve Seen Before

The Lincoln Continental is one of those iconic cars that are pure Americana. Huge, powerful, comfortable, and beautiful, it’s a sedan for the ages, but what if you want it to go FAST too? Original models may be slow by today’s standards, but you know what will solve that? A 5.8 liter V8 ripped straight from a 2013-14 Ford Shelby GT500. That’s what you’ll find under the hood of this particular 1966 Lincoln, created by Divers Street Rods. Now, the stock version of this engine is already hellaciously gutsy, outputting 662 horsepower and letting the Shelby crack a quarter-mile in just 11.6 seconds. In the Lincoln, a larger pulley has been installed, pushing its power through the 700 horsepower barrier.

Take a look at the exterior work that’s been done to the Continental. It’s sublime, like a halfway house between a regular lowrider and Billy Gibbons’ Cadzzilla. Sleekness is the order of the day. The B-pillar’s been removed and the window from a Continental convertible has taken its place, the suspension has been lowered, and the floor modified to let the Lincoln get lower than you thought possible. The car’s equipped with skinny tires, meaning burnouts or drag racing are bad ideas, but the matte black rims are a work of art, matching the car’s paintjob beautifully.

The huge engine means that the 0-60 figures are probably pretty swell, but the afforementioned tires designate it as a cruiser. Even though you may not be able to live out those Don Garlits dreams in the lap of luxury, you sure could travel in style. I’ve included a gallery below, including some shots of the car before the restoration begun, as this really is a car you need to feast your eyes upon.
