Restomod Review: Rare Mustang Finds and Electric Jags

May 29, 2018

There haven’t been any huge projects unveiled in the past couple of days, so rather than dedicating a whole article to each of these smaller stories, we’re going to roll them up into one little almanac of recent restomod news.

Lancia Restomod Planned

The Lancia Delta is a car with a mixed reputation. On one hand, it is often stereotyped (deservedly) as essentially being held together by rust. On the other, this is also the line that produced the HF Integrale Evoluzione that dominated the rally circuit in the 1990s. A happy coincidence of this was that regulations required Lancia to produce the car for general sale. For a brief period, the general public (though sadly, not in the US) could get their hands on this nippy little devil and dance happily around sharp bends and dirt tracks.

Since Lancia is now a shadow of its former self, a restomod seems like the perfect way to hark back to the glory days. That’s what racer and collector Eugenio Amos is looking to do. Amos aims to fully restore one of these legendary cars, upgrade the interior, and install a 330 horsepower engine. That’s 110 horsepower higher than the stock engine. Check out Amos’ Instagram for further details on the project, and to stare at some more gorgeous cars.

X-Code Mustang Found In Warehouse

Mustang360

One day, this car is going to make someone very happy. It may not look like much right now, but what you’re looking at is a very rare find indeed. This Mustang, dug out of a warehouse in Branch, Texas, is an X-Code Mustang. Produced only in 1968, the X-Codes (so called because of their VINs’ fifth character) signify that the Mustang is one of just a few hundred 390 two-barrel models. Only 733 were ever produced, and this fastback is one of 189. This will make a superb restomod or restoration project for whoever can afford the undoubtedly high price.

Prince Harry Goes Electric

TFLCar

If you followed the Royal Wedding at all, you may have noticed something. Something far more interesting than the dresses, guestlist, or paparazzi shots. Upon leaving Windsor Castle following the wedding, Prince Harry chose to leave in style in a vintage E-Type Jaguar. There was something off about it, though. There was no straight-six throatiness to be heard, instead, there was only silence. The reason is that this 1968 E-Type Jag is a restomod by Jaguar Classic Works, called Concept Zero.

Despite the silence, this vehicle doesn’t lack power. The electric setup produces 295 horsepower, giving the Jag a 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds. Whether Harry decided to push it to its limit is less than manifest.
