Pure Art: Jaguar E-Type V12 Restomod

The beauty of the Jaguar E-Type is no secret. It’s long been regarded as one of the most beautiful cars ever made. In terms of classic aesthetics, it’s up there with the coke bottle as an aesthetic classic. Now, as these cars are such classics, they’re not restomodded particularly often. Indeed, this is the first such restomod I’ve written about for the site, but what a first impression!

The car has been designed and built by the British shop E-Type UK, and they’re calling it “the highest-spec E-Type ever.” Bold claims, but I do believe they’re as good as their word. The car began as a 1974 V12 Series 3. The car is nine inches longer than the original model, which left it with a slight lack of structural strength. The restomod takes care of that by welding steel tubes to the chassis. The engine has been increased from 5.3 liters to 6.1. To compensate for its age, the team have added a downdraft fuel-injection set up, as well as giving the ECU and throttle bodies an upgrade. According to tests, the engine now produces 284 horsepower, compared to its original 250. Not bad for an engine that’s older than many of you reading this! The engine feeds into a 12-branch exhaust, and the brakes and steering rack have been upgraded too.

The E-Type has been given new adjustable sports suspension with polyurethane bushings. Inside, the interior has been resurfaced in leather and Alcantara, as well as fitted with push-button ignition, LED lights, and surround sound. The price? Well, it’s not been announced, but take a wild guess, and then probably add another zero onto it. I don’t know though — I think it’s worth every red cent (or indeed, copper penny).
