A Restomod Fit For A Legend: Ian Callum’s Jaguar Mk. II

Jaguar’s Director of Design, Ian Callum, has a pretty cool job. The Scot is responsible for designing, among many others, the Ford Escort Cosworth, the Aston Martin DB9 and Vanquish, and the Jaguar XJ, XF, F-Type, and the C-X75 concept. It seems only fitting that his personal ride be particularly cool, and boy, is it.

The Jaguar Mk. II is a beautiful car from the company’s golden age. Once sitting side-by-side with the E-Type, its a sweeping, beautifully curved sedan that looks more like a classic Rolls-Royce than anything else. For someone like Ian, this wasn’t enough. The changes are subtle and myriad. The bumpers and chrome have been removed, which was harder than it looks, since there was nothing underneath them. Other alterations are just as subtle. The filler for the fuel tank has been moved to a vertical position behind the rear seat, with an air extractor louvre sitting where the filler once did. Other side vents have been added, and the rear arches pulled up ever so slightly thanks to redesigned wings. Ian’s initials feature on the lid of the trunk and the dials, while his signature is engraved into the glove compartment. Quilted leather covers the seats, and dark oak wood provides the interior trim.

The suspension has been lowered by 30mm, and the wheels updated to a set of 17 inch spokes. The 4.3 straight-six engine is from an XK. It’s been uprated, with final displacement at 4.3 liters, and has also been lowered and inclined, and hooked up to a Tremec T5. The rear suspension has been upgraded to a multi-link system that still uses the original’s mounts. The steering and brakes have also been upgraded, and an anti-roll bar has been installed. If you fancy getting your hands on one of Ian’s Mk. II’s, and have £300K ($397K) to spare, you can get in touch with Classic Motor Cars.
