The AMC Javelin Gets The Recognition It Deserves

The AMC Javelin is one of my favorite classic muscle cars. As I said in my recent article on AMC’s collapse, it was a strong competitor to the Barracuda and Challenger, but it’s almost ignored today, aside from by AMC enthusiasts. Luckily, Ringbrothers aren’t a company to readily ignore such a classic machine. Instead, they’ve gone and crafted what may be the ultimate Javelin restomod.

This little baby, named Defiant, is based on a 1972 Javelin AMX, and has had the brutal 707 horsepower Hellcat V8 installed. You think that’s enough power? Ringbrothers disagree. What this needs is a supercharger. A huge one: 4.5 liters of Whipple blower goodness, to be exact. All this means that the Javelin produces 1036 horsepower, and yes, you read that right. Once again, an AMC can make Italian supercars quake in their boots.

The whole car looks a lot more sleek. The wheelarches have been moved forward by a few inches, and redone in carbon fiber. A new hood, front fenders, grille and front valance have also been fitted to the Javelin. Other parts, including the tail lights, have been machined from aluminum by Ringbrothers themselves. The whole car rides on Detroit Speed Hydro suspension, as set up for a Camaro.

Inside, classic instruments and gauges belie a completely updated interior. There’s a Kicker sound system, custom seats, and Vintage Air A/C. This Javelin has the potential to absolutely fly, and that’s what the model deserves.
