Available in 2015: 1941 Ford Pickup Truck Street Rod

November 18, 2014

I love trucks. I’ve always had a fascination with them. I’m not talking about newer trucks here, though. Tried that once; wasn’t a fan. I like a dual purpose hot rod/work truck. Ya know, a “kill two birds with one stone” kinda thing.

Ya’ll also know, by now, that while I show respect for all makes of older vehicles, I’m a Chevy guy at heart. It’s in my blood; how I was raised. No matter how much I look at the old Mustang, I prefer the Camaro. That’s not to say that I’d never own a Ford or Mopar vehicle. In fact, I used to own a ’66 F250.

Surprised? Don’t be.

I recognize a good thing when I see it and this next Ford, is gorgeous.

For many, the year 1941 is synonymous as one of the worst years in American history. As I’m sure you know, America was pulled into War after Pearl Harbor was attacked. In automotive history, Willys began to make the first Jeeps. A lesser known fact is that there was a bill that was passed to have Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of each November.

It is also the year this beautiful truck was built…

She’s tastefully done, without any gaudy eccentricities. Well, to some, the 516 horsepower engine may be a bit eccentric, but not to me. I come from a “more is merrier” standpoint (at least when it comes to ponies).

The seller also made good use of some other go fast goodies: For example, the strong 700R4 transmission with a 2800 RPM stall, a Mustang II front suspension to help it into – and out of – tight turns and a Ford 9 inch rear end.

Moving to the outside of this sultry 1941 Ford pickup truck, we find out that a lot of the original truck is still intact: to include the cab, doors, hood, running boards and frame. It’s always a pleasure to see a classic ride that hasn’t been degraded by cheaply made aftermarket body parts.

In addition, there is one element that I just love to see on these classic haulers. The wood plank bed floor is iconic for old pickup trucks, and looks great on most of them. I said earlier that I love dual purpose trucks, but this ain’t one of them. I’m fairly certain that I wouldn’t put this beauty to work. Maybe if she were a bit uglier?

What’s left? Ah, yes. The paint…

I loathe the color orange on almost anything except sunsets and fruit. However, this isn’t really all that orange, is it? Technically speaking, according to the auction listing, it’s “Spicy Orange.”

Not sure, but maybe the spice is cinnamon and this is what you get when you mix it with the color orange. Either way, it is very hot rod-esque and looks delicious.

Wondering what this little lady will bring in at auction? I’m not sure, but street rods like this can either flop or go fantastic. It all depends upon the taste of those present. If you want to find out, you’ll have to go see it yourself at the Mecum Auto Auction this January in Kissimmee FL.
