1954 CHEVROLET CORVETTE RESTO MOD
LT1, AUTOMATIC
SOLD – $45,000

This restored and modified example puts any of the original Corvette shortcomings well into history. Starting under the hood is modern horsepower with a Chevrolet LT1 V-8 engine backed by an automatic transmission. The upgraded performance package is made possible by a late-model Corvette chassis fitted under the first-generation body. The LT1 engine is equipped with lightweight aluminum radiator with thermostatically controlled electric fan for trouble-free running.

The fuel-injected engine breathes out through headers and a custom-fabricated dual exhaust. The late-model Corvette chassis is equipped with an upgraded Corvette suspension with aluminum rear differential at the center of the independent rear suspension for improved road handling over the original solid rear axle configuration. The 4-wheel power disc brakes are a visual clue to contemporary braking performance behind the chrome-plated C5 Corvette-style wheels. Michelin performance compound tires round out the uprated handling and performance package.

In contrast to the modern engineering under the skin, the interior remains true to the appearance of the 1954 Corvette right down to the optional Wonder Bar signal-seeking radio, which might have tuned into some Dean Martin or Doris Day in its early years. Power steering makes for near effortless precision handling by way of the polished spoke and wood-rimmed Lecarra steering wheel. The combination of first-generation Corvette looks and modern Chevrolet performance engineering has garnered this car a collection of awards and honors including Best of Show at St. Petersburg Yacht Club Vintage Motor Classic.
