Breaking News: A Corvette C3 Has Been Made Good

The Corvette C3 is much maligned and, to be honest, it brings it on itself. Produced for 14 long years before finally lying down and dying, it was slow, had awful suspension, and was just plain dull. However, if the restomod scene is good at anything, it’s breathing a new life into old, sometimes bad, cars. The Corvette C3 is no exception. In this video, by Regular Car Reviews, a 1977 Corvette has been reforged into something great.

The original lackluster engine has been given the boot, and a 1979 1500-series truck engine has been installed, fitted with heads from a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. The interior has been pretty much fully redone in black, and the original AC has been ripped out, which reduces the weight quite dramatically. A new B&M shifter has been added, complete with a line lock switch, because who doesn’t love doing big ugly burnouts? The owner has kept the original rubber backend, despite the cracks, as well as the original finger-eater door handles, because sometimes you just want the original look!
The end result is a C3 Corvette that won’t be outpaced by a Datsun Z or a modern family sedan. Instead, it’s actually been made into the speedy, rorty, and interesting car that it should have been the first time around. I won’t say this video made me a fan of the C3 as a series, but I’d jump into this particular example anytime.
