UPDATE: This car was bid up to $380,000 but did not sell. As Mecum says, “The bid goes on.”
Everyone’s favorite restomod Eleanor is back on the auction block. Perhaps the most famous restomod on the planet, this Steve Sanford penned 1967 Mustang rebuild was featured in Jerry Bruckheimer’s 2000 remake of Gone in 60 Seconds. This film is also famous for many Academy Award – worthy performances from Nic Cage:
This particular car is for sale at Mecum Austin in mid December and claims to be:
This 1967 Ford Mustang is number 7 of 11 “Eleanor” versions built by Cinema Vehicle Services of North Hollywood, California, for the 2000 remake of the original 1974 cult classic “Gone in 60 Seconds.” The car is one of only three used in scenes involving the cast of Gone
Three of these cars have sold before: One at Barrett-Jackson in 2009 for $216,700, another at COYS Autosport International January 2012 auction (Birmingham, UK) for £95,000, and most recently and perhaps most significantly at Mecum Indianapolis May 18, 2013 for a cool million bucks.
That last one was touted as the “main” hero car in the film and used for promotional photographs. Again, the description on this one says it is one of three involved in the driving which is the same claim as all three cars above made so this is definitely one of those. Maybe one of the earlier buyers saw the million dollar sale and was on the phone right away to Mecum to move his Eleanor.
I’m sure Mecum has more information on this car, but they aren’t sharing much on the listing page. I guess we will just have to show up at Mecum Austin and find out along with the rest of you. Good luck bidding!
