A gorgeous and award wining 1955 Chevrolet Nomad to be sold at Mecum
I’m not like most gearheads. I like the Chevy’s from ’55-’57 just fine, but my favorite year isn’t the ’57 like most people on the face of the planet. Instead, I love the look of the ’55 the most. And of course, the ’56 is a close second.
This next 1955 Chevrolet Nomad is one of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever seen. And if she’s not a restomod, I don’t know what is. She starts off with one very well done restoration, where not a single bolt was left untouched. And, she ends up looking as fine as she is, with a monstrous engine and a laundry list of awards about a mile long.

Speaking of the engine, let’s get this big, bad 6.2 Liter LS9 out of the way right now before I explode from excitement. Just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of years, the LS9 is the culmination of Chevy performance stuffed into a single $20,000+ engine.

Chevrolet uses this power plant in the ZR1 Corvettes. This supercharged 376 cubic inch tire shredder is rated at 638 horsepower and a mind blowing 604 pounds of torque. All of that power makes its way to the rear wheels via a six speed automatic with paddle shifters.
I’m not sure, but this could be the only ’55 Chevy with paddle shifters…

…I digress
With all of those ponies hitting the pavement, you need a way to get them there without trashing the driveline. So, the soon to be previous owner opted for some high tech goodies to help bring all of that power to the ground, in the safest way possible.
The aluminum driveshaft hooks up to the strange 9” posi rear end with an economical 3.50:1 gear ratio. That way, you can still have some hard launches off the line, without sacrificing drivability on the highway.
Stance has been improved upon by switching up the wheel size with 20” wheels in the back, and 17” in the front. And, to help this fat bottomed girl stop is a set of Wilwood disc brakes.

The interior has been restored while keeping true to the original looks, with a few updated touches. The interior is clean and done well, but not overdone.
This beauty queen has been finished for less than a year and has already won more awards than most cars have who’ve been showing for much longer than that. She’s a beauty, and she’ll likely command a premium during this Mecum auction. According to the listing, she’ll be sold on January 24, 2015.
