Howling At The Moon In A Coyote-Engined Mustang

Mustang 360

Ford Mustangs do have a way of making us go weak at the knees, don’t they?  When one is fitted with a Ford Performance Coyote engine, that effect is magnified dramatically. What to many people will remain an unbuilt dream car became reality for Christian Zwick. After consulting with the staff at The Restomod Store (not affiliated to us, if you were wondering) in Independence, Missouri, a 1965 Fastback was tracked down, and the work began. The aim was simple, but far from easy: create the perfect muscle car.

I’m happy to say that while perfection is subjective, everyone will agree that this is a pretty superb Mustang.

Originally, Christian wanted to put a 427 under the hood, but was persuaded to switch to a 5-liter Coyote Crate. It may be two liters smaller, but it’s also got all the reliability you’d expect of a new engine, and will be easier to supercharge. To maximize the Coyote’s howl, the engine is hooked up to a 2.5-inch Magnaflow exhaust system, creating some terrific (and terrifying) sounds.

The car’s exterior lines have been left as close to the original fastback’s as possible (you wouldn’t spice up the Mona Lisa with lipstick, would you?). Keen-eyed viewers will be able to see that the Mustang sports new gear in the form of 17-inch American Racing wheels. Behind each one, you’ll find Wilwood disc brakes. Inside, the Mustang has also been left relatively clean, with just black leather seats, Dakota Digital gauges, and a new stereo system pointing out the car’s modern nature. Finished in Sapphire Blue paint, this is a superb restomod.
