ICON’s New Kaiser Wagoneer Restomod Is Pure 60s Style

Jeep Wagoneers seem to be coming into vogue as a restomod lately. Jeep itself got in on the act just over a month ago, creating the “Wagoneer Roadtrip”, and now it’s the turn of Californian firm ICON. To give them their full name, ICON 4×4 are a company that specializes in giving new life to iconic machines. Their version of the 1965 Kaiser Wagoneer is a prime example of their philosophy.

The exterior is just as bold and handsome as ever. The shovel nose is still there, but streaking along behind it is new wood trim and 18-inch aluminum wheels. Fitted to those new wheels are some giant six-piston Brembos at the front and four-piston Brembos at the rear. There’s more to it than meets the eye, though. The chassis is completely new, built by Art Morrison and made to measure, following a laser measurement of the underbody. There’s a Dana 60 ProRock axle in the back, Dana 44 in the front. The whole suspension set up is brand new and features Eibach coils. Under the hood, there’s a 6.2 liter E-Rod LS3 that kicks out 440 horsepower. ICON has even replaced the 327 displacement number on the fenders, replacing it with one that reads 376 following the facelift.

It’s the interior where this period piece truly comes alive, however. The seats are coated in fabric from furniture maker Knoll, and the cushions themselves are made of memory foam. The gauges are brand new, but you wouldn’t know it, they could have easily come from a remarkably well-preserved original. There’s no gaudy LEDs or incongruous buttons here, either, all the new technology is secreted away. Take the new A/C, controlled by three discrete knobs and blown from the former ashtray holders.

If you really want to see a Wagoneer recreated for the 21st Century, or just one of the best examples of a restomod around, check this truck out.
