Ladies and Gents: The FrankenCamaro

This Camaro is a weird one. Not really a Restomod, more a retromod. When you look at this car, crafted by one Jack Warren of London Auto Sales, what do you see? At first glance, it looks like a 1969 Camaro, but not quite. It’s that “not quite” feeling that we’re interested in here, because this car is very obviously non-standard, but how? Well, unlike most cars featured on this page, it didn’t begin its life in the 60s or 70s, and have itself slowly upgraded, no. This car began its days as a Z28 Camaro, rolling off the production line in 2002.

How did Jack go about making the changes he saw as necessary? Well, first of all, the front clip had to come off. All of it. Then, ’69 parts were fitted as replacements, after being modified to fit the Z28 chassis. As Jack pointed out in an interview with Chevy Hardcore, the nose and grille have been left totally unchanged, and could be slotted on to a ’69 as is. The fender has had to be changed, due to the ’02’s door spacing, but other than that, many parts are remarkably compatible.

The panels are also from a ’69, and have seen extensive modification to fit the new chassis, as well as having the necessary mounts added. What’s so cool about the car is just how well the two vastly different generations fit together. The base structure of the ’02 still remains, with parts such as the rocker panels being left alone. Despite this, numerous parts from the older machine, such as the bumpers and the trunk lid just bolt right on. The end result? A car that’s just one inch longer than a 1969 Camaro, and packing the power of a Z28 under the hood. It might not be a true restomod, but it’s one hell of a retromod.
