This Lancia Aurelia Restomod Is The Ultimate In Beauty

Restomodding rare classic cars makes some people very angry indeed, but when the results are this pretty, who cares? The Lancia Aurelia, made in the 1950s, is a difficult car to get a hold of these days. Even rarer is a racing version of the car. However, at the request of a client, British garage Thornley Kelham were tasked with tracking one down. They were able to find one, and restored it beautifully. When this project was being shown off, there was one immediate reaction: people wanted more. They wanted a restomodded version. Thus, this project began.

Thornley Kelham are experts with Lancias, and it shows. When you look at an unmodified Lancia Aurelia, they look their age. They’ve got the massive bumpers and the general style of a 1950s European car, you know what I mean, the ones that look like they sprang from the 1930s. This one looks more like a 60s cruiser, something that could have been drawn up by Jaguar or Lamborghini. What’s changed? The roof’s been cut, the bumper deleted, the stance has been edited, there are new gunmetal wheels, a rack and pinion steering system, and a fully custom interior. It’s gorgeous.

Under the hood, the engine’s been given a modest update. The original two-liter V6 has been replaced with a newer model from the Lancia Flaminia. It’s still only got 170 horsepower, but compared to the 100 it started with, that’s pretty grand. The car’s very Italian handling and its looks do more than make up for its power deficit, though. It’s not going to win any drag races, but it will attract plenty of loving glances. Want to know more? Check out the video below!
