The Lime Crush Chevy Suburban Will Make You Green With Envy

If I think about the Chevy Suburban, speed isn’t exactly the first thing to come to mind. They’re perfectly average cars, with nothing particularly incredible about them, but nothing particularly awful either. The Lime Crush Suburban though, takes it to another level. Built by Roadster Shop by request of Mr. Gasket, now part of the Accel Performance Group, the Lime Crush looks none of its 51 years old. It looks like a car that was made for the beach, but with the power to do whatever the hell it likes on the road, too. Both the bumpers and wheel openings have been reshaped, the door handles shaved, and the fenders and hood have both been customized heavily. The car’s design is one of extremely clean lines, but which never judder into sterility.

This aesthetic even extends under the hood. The firewall is completely smooth, which is at first a jarring sight, but it’s a design choice that allows all attention to fall on the engine. And it’s a great engine. The Lime Crush packs a ZZ502 crate engine from Chevrolet Performance. The crate outputs 502 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. Custom parts by the aforementioned Accel, as well as Mallory and Mr. Gasket, make it even better. Inside, the emphasis on smooth and clean design continues, with hardwood inserts and a smooth woodgrain dashboard.

There’s an interesting story behind the car too. The founder of Mr. Gasket, Joe Hrudka, had a custom 57 Chevy built for him by Boyd Coddington. The Lime Crush was designed by Boyd’s eldest son, Boyd Coddington, Jr. The apple doesn’t seem to have fallen far from the tree. I’ve pasted a video walk through fo the car below, because it really is a beautifully designed piece of machinery.
