1967 PONTIAC FIREBIRD

Built in 2010 by Maurer’s Hot Rods in Fairbury, Illinois, and known as “The Essence of 1967,” it has become symbolic of builder Derrick Maurer’s commitment to excellence, a commitment that shows in even the tiniest details. This rolling work of art began with reworking the Firebird’s sheet metal with new quarters that were modified with custom louver inserts. Mini-tubs were added to accommodate the massive 20-inch rear wheels and Nitto tires, mounts for the four-link rear suspension were molded in to the unibody and the rocker panels were dropped 2½ inches to accept molded side-exhaust exits. Maurer also skillfully reworked the front and rear ends, smoothing the lower front air dam, adding halogen headlights and a custom stainless mesh grille up front and reshaping the rear valence and deck.
