The Chevy 1955 Bel Air is also a popular restomodder’s choice of platform. It debuted to rave reviews and was the best selling car of 1955 so there are plenty of examples to work from.

Transformed in a body-on restoration by Ken Lambert at Ken’s Car Care in Marble Hill, Georgia in 2007, this car is powered by a 454/600 HP Hardcore small-block engine by Bill Mitchell Products of Ronkonkoma, New York. Fitted with a Billet Specialties TruTrac serpentine belt system, Stahl tube headers and 3-inch Flowmaster dual exhaust, the big-inch small-block is mated to a Richmond Gear 4-speed manual transmission backed by a Strange Engineering Ford 9-inch rear end with Traction-Lok differential.

The chassis incorporates a Heidts front end assembly with tubular A-arm suspension, front disc and rear drum brakes, and rides on Goodyear Eagle radial tires on Cragar 15-inch chromed wheels. A new American Autowire wiring harness was installed, followed by a full custom Black interior featuring Strato-style bucket seats, Auto Meter white-faced gauges and tach, Vintage Air and a custom Alpine sound system with eight speakers. The trunk is finished to the same high standard. Finished in gleaming Black with tinted glass and sparkling brightwork, this is an exemplary piece of RestoMod art.
