This Mercedes-Benz 190E Is An AMG-Powered Monster

The Mercedes-Benz 190 is an icon of the 1980s. In the realm of European cars, it’s a toss up between the E30 BMW, the Audi Quattro, and the Mercedes-Benz 190 as to which is truly emblematic of the decade. The 190E Cosworth? That took the sedan to extremes. The car put out 202 highly-tuned horsepower, which made the Merc a demon on the track. It was, for many, the ultimate 190. Until now.

Piper Motorsport of Leesburg, Virginia, have gone one better. The 190E now packs a 6.2 liter V8 from a C63 AMG that they’ve supercharged. That means this car now produces more than 451 horsepower. Quite an upgrade, huh? The project began with a pair of cars, a 1985 190E, and a 2010 C63. Over five years of work, the restomod came into being. The cars were stripped down to their chassis, before the body of the 190E was fitted to the C63’s chassis. Despite the 190E’s unibody construction, they managed to do it without removing the glass. Pretty impressive.

Inside, a new roll cage has been fitted, and the dashboard has been suitably modified for the 190’s classic looks. The electronics from the AMG have been brought over, including remote locking and power windows. Outside, the 190E has been given a repro of the bodykit from an Evo 2. It’s a truly stunning car.
