Ever Wondered What A Modernized GT500 Would Be Like?

There are several different types of restomod. Some opt for an engine swap and nothing else, others take an exhaustative approach of replacing everything that can be torn out or stripped off. Then there are cars like this Classic Recreations Ford Mustang GT500CR. This car opts to keep a classic Ford engine installed, but upgrade other systems, making the classic far easier to throw around.

The car is modeled on a 1967 Shelby GT500, packing the requisite 427 V8, sourced from Ford Performance. This is then hooked up to a Tremec T5 five-speed manual transmission. The steering has been vigorously upgraded to a hydraulic system, and sway bars have been fitted to the new coilover suspension. As you’d probably expect, you’ll also find disc brakes on all four wheels. All in all, this makes the Mustang an effortless joy of a drive.

Inside, the car’s seen improvements too. Leather bucket seats provide a good amount of comfort and there’s a bluetooth-enabled sound system. Sitting inside, you’ll find only a few reminders that it’s a modern machine, with aluminum fittings bedecking an otherwise retro interior. How much is this car? Brace your wallet, because it’s $179,000. For what is essentially a brand new and upgraded Shelby GT500 though? Maybe that’s not so bad.
