The Salon Collection At Barrett-Jackson

January 18, 2015

The Barrett Jackson auction in Scottsdale this past week was a huge success but was a bit overshadowed by the massive culling of the Ron Pratte collection. Everywhere in the car world, people were talking about the collection and wondering what his gems were going to sell for. However, there was another side of the auction that didn’t receive as much talk as it deserved. The Salon Collection was also in attendance and had some beauties of their own that fetched a pretty penny as well. Many did not hit the reserve but here were a couple that broke the million dollar mark.

The CSX3169 was built on work order #18044 opened on 10/1/65 and finished 12/1/65. Upon completion, the car was delivered to Hayward Motors and sold on 12/13/65 to J.S. Toma. This car was brought back to Hayward in April of 1966 for warranty work. The next known owner was Kevin Nugent, who sold the car in 1976 to Bob Able with 27,000 miles.

The car was then sold to Bill Contesin in 1987. After being out of the public eye for many years, CSX3169 was found close to original condition in 2012. The current owner commissioned a full, no-expense-spared, nut and bolt restoration in its factory correct original shade of Vineyard Green.

Well-documented by the Shelby American Registry. Original drivetrain, unmodified body and original Sunburst wheels. An extremely rare chance to win a true factory-spec 427 Street Cobra. Restoration photo diary included with the car.

1949 TALBOT-LAGO T-26 GRAND SPORT COUPE FRANAY Sold $1,650,000

This Talbot-Lago T26 Grand Sport, chassis number 110123, is one of eight built on the same short chassis used on the Grand Prix cars. It is one of only three Grand Sports, including one roadster and two coupes, built with Franay coachwork. The other Franay-bodied coupe has a different grille and rear fender treatment, making 110123 a one-off design and the only T26 Franay to be fitted with a sunroof.

The T26 Grand Sport is powered by a race-proven 6 cylinder, 3 carburetor engine producing nearly 200hp. Independent front suspension and massive drum brakes on all four corners provide roadholding and stopping in line with the car’s strong performance capabilities. The car retains its original DOHC 4.5 Liter engine and comes with a carefully documented and detailed history, including receipts and pictures of a frame-off Concours-level restoration costing hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The car is in stunning condition and was recently displayed on the lawn at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Given the car’s styling and rarity, it would make an excellent choice for an astute collector. Furthermore, it would be a terrific car to drive in one of the many premier historic driving events for which it is eligible, such as the Mille Miglia and California Mille.
