Sleeper Sunday: ’74 Pickup Beats ’08 GT 500 Mustang

2008 Mustang GT 500 VS 1974 Shabby-Ass Pickup Truck

The ultimate in sleeper cars, actually isn’t even a car at all. Trucks are some of the best vehicles you can use, because everyone assumes that, because they’re big and often weigh more, they’re slow even if they sound bad-ass. Just about everyone has heard of The Farm Truck, a ripping fast late ’60s Chevy pickup that lays waste to just about any car he goes up against, to include Lamborghinis and other ridiculously fast cars.

This next truck, ain’t The Farmtruck from TV, though. This pickup is nowhere near as fast as that famous capped truck is, but still manages to romp on a 2008 Mustang GT 500. He managed to beat the smaller, lighter car two out of three times, with a best time of 12.30 in the quarter mile. Though, I do suspect that the trucker is a better driver because he is more consistent with his wins than the Mustanger is.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you’re for Ford, or for Chevy. All that matters is the respect that is given to any mid ’70s truck capable of running low 12 second quarter mile times. Even better, you can hear the surprise in the people’s voices at the track in the video. At one point, even the announcer poked some fun at the truck for doing the one wheel peel.

Any way you slice it up, that ’74 pickup truck is awesome. There’s no way of knowing for sure what’s under the hood, but I’ve heard rumors that it has a big block, and is all motor without any power adders. Obviously, it works well together with whatever parts are being used, right down to the the rear end gears in the back (which are rumored to be 3.73:1). It’s a torque monster, for sure.

After you watch the video, let us know what you think about the truck in the comments below. Would you ever consider driving a truck like this? I would. In fact, I own a ’67 Chevy C/20 sleeper that utterly destroys everything it goes against until it runs out of gearing. Sadly, it has 4.10:1 gears and a 4-speed transmission. In order to do any real damage I’d need another gear or two.

Here’s the video:

The great part, is that the unsuspecting little weenies behind the wheel of the other cars never even see it coming. It’s two different shades of blue and primer gray. It sounds bad-ass, but hey, it’s a ¾ ton pickup truck, so how fast could it be. Right?
