1955 CHEVROLET 210 RESTO MOD
502 CI, AIR CONDITIONING

Chevrolets of the mid-’50s turn heads wherever they go: instantly recognizable, these icons of the automotive world have long been favorites of restorers and hot rodders alike. The mid-level model, the 210, was a particularly appealing choice: it boasted the elegant lines and available power of the top-of-the-line Bel Air and even included the same chrome trim, but left off a few creature comforts, thereby lowering the price tag and making it possible for buyers to step up more easily to Chevy’s legendary small-block V-8.

This Resto Modded 1955 210 retains all the visual appeal of the original sporty two-door hardtop, but upgrades the mechanicals in a stunning fashion. A GM high-performance 502 CI big block with four-barrel carburetor puts huge power on tap, conducted through the Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 automatic transmission; a Be Cool aluminum radiator keeps things chilled even when pushing the powerplant’s considerable limits. Four-wheel power brakes, headers and dual exhaust give both the control and sound a build like this deserves.

That experience benefits, too, from the Nitto Extreme Performance tires mounted to 17-inch custom wheels, accented by the front and rear bumper guards and tasteful, minimal chrome. Shaved door handles and tinted windows make it a sleek Black Beauty. In addition this car is Danny Hill’s favorite cruiser among his collection but has only been driven 5,120 miles since its body-off build.

Inside, air conditioning, power windows and a tilt steering column with Lecarra wheel offer considerable comfort, while the Stewart Warner gauges let the driver take full advantage of that massive engine underhood. The updated Gray and Black upholstery and Hide-A-Way radio in the glovebox add a few more special touches to what’s already a carefully sorted car, taking one of Chevrolet’s classic offerings and raising it to the next level of style, comfort and performance.
