We’ve talked about the Vega, now let’s look at its derivative, the Monza. This is a car with an interesting story. Boasting incredible Italian-inspired looks to match its name, the car was originally going to be fitted with a Wankel rotary engine, as you’d find in a Miata, but this was ditched for economy reasons. Instead, the car came equipped with either a four-cylinder engine, which could be as small as 140ci, or a 350ci V8. It’s a pretty poky little thing, but it was nevertheless award winning, walking away with the title of 1975 Auto Trend Car of the Year.

You won’t have to cough up too much cash if you can find one – budget around $5000, and you’ll be set. Finding one, though? Yeah, that’s going to prove the trickiest part. Their factory build quality was suspect, meaning there aren’t tons of them still kicking it out there on the roads. This also means parts are going to be harder to get than for something like the Impala, and more costly. However, if you’re determined, and feel confident in your rebuilding abilities, definitely consider the Monza.
