Like the Capri, this is a great Mustang-a-like. Replacing the Falcon due to poor sales, the Ford Maverick is a fun compact which packs a good set of engines. Under the hood, you can find three straight-sixes, ranging from 170-250ci, or a 302 V8. Thanks to the 302’s popularity, the amount of parts around for this engine and modification opportunities are huge. Unlike the Galaxie, this car never really created a big cult following, so they’re going to be quite a bit harder to find. That’s not such a big problem, because they’re also very cheap — $1500-3500 will get you one in need of a little TLC, while around $5000 will get you one in a decent state of repair.

Power isn’t huge with the stock engine, with the 302 only producing around 210 horsepower, but it’s great fun to drive, and that can also be easily remedied with upgrades or a replacement engine, depending on how ambitious you are. Often overlooked, the Maverick is a great little ride, and an excellent project car.
