This 912 Horsepower Mach 1 Is A True Beast
Muscle cars don’t come much more iconic than the Ford Mustang Mach 1, do they? This particular example, based on a 1970 model, sold by RK Motors of Charlotte, North Carolina, may end up going down in restomod history. Its power output has been boosted all the way up to 912 horsepower thanks to a huge 9.8 liter version of the Boss 429 engine. Quite an upgrade from the original 335 horsepower available in 1970. The team’s goal was to create a Mustang Mach 1 that is truly “scary fast”, and they’ve achieved that with aplomb.
The engine is a Kaase Boss 9, modified with a K&N X-Stream air cleaner, FAST multi-port fuel injection, and custom heads and rockers. The engine bay has been cleaned up and equipped with trick dipsticks, billet supports, and a Wilwood master cylinder. Other modifications made include a 4L80E transmission, Varishock coilovers, and rack-and-pinion power steering.
The car’s body was given the once-over with new sheet metal, finished in a beautiful candy apple paintjob, complete with a fantastic offset racing stripe in white, red, black, and silver, next to the exaggerated cowl. The bumpers have been tucked and painted, a new billet grille fitted, and the headlamps updated. The fuel filler is located at the back, above an incredible smoothed valance.
The tasteful customization doesn’t end at the doors. Step inside, and you’ll find a truly gorgeous cabin, fit for a tourer. The old seats have been pulled out and replaced with suede and leather Corbeau buckets, replete with 4-point Sparco harnesses. New Auto Meter dials have been fitted in a carbon-fiber panel, while Vintage Air ensures a comfortable atmosphere. A tiltable wheel by Billet Specialties is flanked by a Lokar shifter, and aluminum pedals. For safety, a four-point roll bar has also been added. The price of this little piece of heaven? Just shy of $140K. Not a bad price, in our book.
