Mil-Spec's Hummers Are Restomod Beasts
Mil-Spec Automotive is an entrepreneurial wonder. It was founded in 2015 by three 20 something guys with a pedigree in military but also a passion for trucks and economics. Perhaps the Hummer isn’t considered a classic just yet, but restorations on 90’s era vehicles is nothing new. What is quite new is what the guys at Mil-Spec are doing. It’s awesome. They are restomodding Hummers!
Since 2015, the guys at Mil-Spec have been doing frame off RestoMods of first generation civilian Hummers. They disassemble the entire truck and go through a labor intensive process of coating and repainting the entire aluminum body, and they update all the internals. Engine swaps are done for more tolerable gas mileage and better horsepower and torque gains. The 6.6 Duramax Diesel engine in production today in GM heavy duty trucks is usually the go-to option, and the swaps are smog legal! They’ve even made them biodiesel compatible as well. All the powertrain, suspension, and interior components are all replaced with in house design, and to top it off they sit on some meaty American made Nitto Tires. What’s more is that Mil-Spec has created Hummers that have overcome their own stigma with more efficiency and modern discipline on par with any diesel truck on the market today.
Their company has gained widespread acclaim and they even got a showcase on Jay Leno’s Garage. Check out the video above to see some of these badass Hummers!
