This Porsche 356 Restomod Packs 400 Horsepower And Apocalyptic Styling

For the most part, here at Restomods, we focus on American cars. However, sometimes, other styles take our fancy. In this case, it’s a gorgeous restomod of the Porsche 356. Porsche’s first production car, the 356 was inspired by a supercharged Volkswagen cabriolet, as driven by Ferdinand “Ferry” Porsche, and which, in turn, lent itself to the Porsche 911. By any measure, an influential and important car, what Oregon-based company Emory Motorsports did to it will either be considered sacrilegious or breathtaking. I must say, I belong to the latter camp.

The first thing that probably strikes you about the 356 restomod is frankly, how little it looks like a 356. The Porsche’s original unibody has been merged with that from a 964, and a widebody body kit has been fitted on top of that. The removable bodywork at the front and rear is made of aluminum, while cooling is aided by louvering and mesh grilles for the rear fender’s ducts. Other changes include new plexiglass windows and rocker panels taken from a Porsche 911.

The radical blend of old and new continues inside. The Momo seats and pedals are pure track day beauty, but the authentic Porsche styling is continued with the wooden shifter knob.

The big question, when it comes to Porsche restomods is, what is under the hood? Sadly, there’s no secret V8 lurking there, but what is there is fantastic. The engine, called the Outlaw-4, was developed by Emory and Rothsport Racing. Boasting twin turbos and producing 393 horsepower. It’s an engine so well designed that it can be mated with OEM Porsche parts, and in the 356, the results are breathtaking. Its silky smooth power curves, mated to a five-speed transmission, will allow you to tear down roads, and, as a Porsche-based car, turn on the smallest dimes ever cast.
