You're Gonna Love This Psychedelic Chevy Restomod

Fate keeps giving us good trucks to talk about — following the Syclone we featured last week, we got emailed about this gorgeous Chevrolet 3100 restomod. A half-ton pickup with a small-block V8, outputting 400 horsepower? You already know this is going to be incredible. The 1948 3100 body has had a rabid 5.3 liter V8 shoved under its hood, and it growls like a stalking panther. The truck’s got plenty of torque too, and it’s quite happy to heft you back into your seat.

The Chevy’s psychedelic paintjob isn’t the result of its builders going all Jackson Pollock. The original plan was to give it a new lick of paint to complement its all-new form, but when they started scraping off the old stuff, they kept finding more and more layers. In the end, they decided to keep them. The look is the result of seven different paintjobs across 69 years. That’s some true character.
The suspension comes from a Ford Mustang, but the car isn’t designed to be a racer or to necessarily outrun a pony car. The goal of the design was to build a superb cruiser which you can use every day. To my eyes, it looks like they’ve achieved just that.
